Dubai is preparing for another major leap in infrastructure, this time focused on how people move between its two international airports.

Plans have been revealed for a 55-kilometre Airport Express Metro Line that will directly connect Dubai International Airport (DXB) with Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC). Beyond simply linking two destinations, the project is designed to connect multiple residential, commercial, and growth corridors across the city.

The Roads and Transport Authority has invited consultants to bid for the design and study phase, with submissions expected by June 2026.

A Route That Connects Key Districts Across Dubai

The proposed line is structured to pass through some of Dubai’s most important and fast-developing areas, positioning it as more than just an airport connector.

The expected route includes:

  • Starting point at DXB (Al Garhoud area) via the existing Red Line
  • Moving through Al Jaddaf, a growing mixed-use district
  • Running along Al Khail Road, one of Dubai’s main arterial corridors
  • Stopping at a new station in Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC), a high-demand residential hub
  • Continuing south toward Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) in Dubai South

In addition, two secondary branches are being planned:

  • A connection from JVC to Emirates Golf Club, strengthening access to established residential zones
  • A link from JVC to Business Bay, one of Dubai’s key commercial and investment districts

This network effectively ties together old Dubai, central business areas, and emerging southern corridors.

A New Type Of Airport Travel Experience

One of the most forward-thinking aspects of the Airport Express Line is how it changes the passenger journey.

Instead of traditional airport processes happening only at terminals, the system may allow:

  • Remote airline check-in at metro stations
  • Baggage drop-off before reaching the airport
  • Pre-security processing within the city

This reduces congestion at airport terminals while giving passengers a smoother, more time-efficient experience.

For frequent travellers, this could shift the entire perception of airport travel, making it feel like a continuation of the city rather than a separate process.

Supporting Dubai South And Future Aviation Growth

The importance of this project becomes clearer when viewed alongside the long-term plans for Al Maktoum International Airport.

DWC is being developed to handle up to 260 million passengers annually, positioning it as the largest capacity airport globally. Over time, operations from DXB are expected to transition toward DWC, starting from around 2032.

The Airport Express Line ensures that:

  • Dubai South becomes seamlessly connected to the rest of the city
  • Travel between DXB and DWC remains efficient during the transition period
  • Infrastructure keeps pace with aviation growth

Without this level of connectivity, scaling airport operations across two hubs would create logistical challenges. This line addresses that early.

Integration With Existing And Future Metro Lines

The Airport Express Line is not being developed in isolation. It is part of a broader, expanding transport ecosystem.

Dubai Metro is expected to grow to:

  • 64 stations across 84 square kilometres by 2030
  • 140 stations across more than 228 square kilometres by 2040

The proposed line connects directly into:

  • The Red Line at DXB
  • Future network expansions near JVC and Business Bay
  • Wider transport corridors linked to Dubai South

This layered connectivity allows residents and travellers to move across the city without relying heavily on road transport.

Impact On Real Estate And Key Communities

Transport infrastructure consistently drives real estate demand, and this route touches several high-impact areas.

Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC)
Already one of Dubai’s most transacted residential communities, improved metro access increases its appeal for both investors and end-users.

Business Bay
As a central commercial hub, enhanced connectivity strengthens its position for professionals and companies relying on mobility.

Al Jaddaf
A developing district that benefits from proximity to Downtown and Dubai Creek, now gaining stronger transport integration.

Dubai South and DWC Corridor
Long-term growth zone tied directly to aviation, logistics, and future population expansion.

As accessibility improves, these locations tend to see stronger demand, better rental performance, and increased long-term value.

A Shift Toward Seamless Urban Mobility

Dubai’s infrastructure strategy continues to move toward integration rather than expansion alone.

This project reflects a broader direction where:

  • Airports, metro systems, and residential areas are connected into one network
  • Travel time is reduced not just by speed, but by efficiency of movement
  • The city becomes easier to navigate without dependence on cars

The Airport Express Line is part of that shift, where mobility is designed around convenience, not just capacity.

Final Thoughts

The proposed Airport Express Metro Line represents a significant step in how Dubai approaches connectivity.

By linking DXB, Al Jaddaf, Al Khail corridor, JVC, Business Bay, Emirates Golf Club, and DWC, the project creates a continuous movement corridor across the city.

At the same time, features like remote check-in and integrated travel processes push the experience beyond traditional transport systems.

If delivered as planned, this line will not only connect airports, it will reshape how people experience movement across Dubai.
