Major Traffic Relief: Upgraded Intersection Now Open
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially completed one of the most impactful traffic upgrades in recent memory, the revamp of the Sheikh Rashid Road and Al Mina Street intersection. This key development marks a turning point for traffic flow in Bur Dubai, with immediate benefits for thousands of daily commuters.
The Core Upgrade: Five Bridges, Smoother Movement
The intersection now features five newly constructed bridges, totaling 3.1 kilometers in length, designed to accommodate approximately 19,400 vehicles per hour. These bridges now allow seamless access between:
- Al Mina Street and Sheikh Rashid Road
- Al Mina Street and Al Wasl Road
- Jumeirah Street and Infinity Bridge
The result is a drastic reduction in congestion and a vastly improved driving experience across this previously bottlenecked zone.
Integrated Design for Pedestrians
To improve accessibility and safety for those on foot, the project also included two new pedestrian bridges: one crossing Sheikh Rashid Road and the other Al Mina Street. These additions ensure safer, quicker access across busy traffic zones and support the city’s broader push for walkable infrastructure.
Part of the Larger Al Shindagha Corridor Vision
While the spotlight rests on the Al Mina Street intersection, this achievement forms part of the larger Al Shindagha Corridor Development, a multi-year infrastructure initiative set to transform connectivity across old and new Dubai. Once completed, the corridor will:
- Reduce travel time across Deira and Bur Dubai from 104 minutes to just 16
- Increase capacity from 6,400 to 24,000 vehicles per hour
- Serve over one million residents
The corridor spans several major roads including Sheikh Rashid Road, Al Mina Street, Al Khaleej Street, and Cairo Street. Other key milestones include:
- The Infinity Bridge
- Falcon Intersection upgrades
- Improved access to Dubai Islands
- Ongoing construction of the Al Khaleej Street Tunnel
Each element of the corridor contributes to the city’s long-term goals of improving urban mobility, safety, and economic efficiency.
Why the Al Mina Street Upgrade Matters
Among all the major works, the Al Mina Street and Sheikh Rashid Road intersection stands out for its immediate impact. The upgrade has eased pressure on multiple connecting routes, improved pedestrian access, and streamlined movement between residential, commercial, and coastal areas of Bur Dubai.
This intersection directly supports high-traffic zones such as Port Rashid, Jumeirah, Al Hudaiba, and the developing Dubai Waterfront areas that are vital to Dubai’s tourism, residential, and logistics sectors.
Looking Ahead
With the RTA’s continued rollout of smart infrastructure, residents and investors in the surrounding communities can expect stronger connectivity and higher property value potential in the years ahead.
